CLINIC INFORMATION

Cervical Screening

All women between the ages of 20 and 64 will automatically be invited to attend the surgery for a cervical smear test. Tests are usually done every three years.

Appointments can be made with your own doctor, the nurses or with Dr Carol Gibson at her clinic. Please mention that you are booking for a smear so that sufficient time may be allowed. When attending for a smear, please bring with you a small urine sample and a stamped, self addressed envelope so that you can be advised of the result.

Baby Clinic And Child Immunisations

Every Wednesday 1.00 - 3.00pm

Regular pre-school examinations are important to check the growth and development of your child. You will be requested by post to make appointments for your child at the following ages: six weeks, eight months, 21 months, 39 months.

All children require a course of immunisations which provide protection against a range of serious infectious diseases. When these are due you will be sent an appointment. Regular weighing and advice on feeding and parenting issues are also recommended.

Child Health Surveillance Clinic

All pre-school age children are offered appointments at this clinic from birth. The service is provided by the doctors and health visitors at the practice.

Antenatal Care

This is shared between your doctor, the hospital antenatal clinic and the community midwife. Your pregnancy will be monitored by your doctor at the antenatal clinic, at the William Julien Courtauld Hospital. Special cases are looked after by a consultant obstetrician with deliveries at St John's Hospital in Chelmsford.

Family Planning

You can discuss all aspects of contraception with your own doctor or one of the practice nurses.

Asthma/Diabetes/Blood Pressure Monitoring

Our doctors and nurses prefer to offer these monitoring services as part of their general surgeries to provide you with more flexible appointment times. Please tell the receptionist if you are booking your appointment for one of these checks to ensure that enough time is allocated.

Well Woman Clinic

Dr Carol Gibson runs a well woman clinic every Thursday from 2.00 to 4.00pm.

This clinic offers various services including:

  • cervical smear
  • contraception including coil fitting/removal
  • breast examination
  • general advice on all issues relating to women's health

Minor Surgery

The doctors carry out minor surgical procedures in the surgery and at the William Julien Courtauld Hospital and will be happy to advise you on this.

Young Persons' Clinic

The young persons clinic is held every four weeks on a Saturday morning. Patients between the ages of 13 and 18 years can "drop in" from 9.00 to 11.00am.

No appointment is necessary. A practice nurse and a health visitor are available to discuss or give advice on any issue or problem a person of this age might have. We are also part of the GP Condom Scheme and are able to give out condoms free of charge at this clinic on a regular basis.
